How important are telephone skills in a yoga studio? If you are currently training to be a certified yoga teacher, or you are in the process of opening up your own studio, it is important to conduct yourself in a professional manner when you are speaking on the telephone. One of the very first points of contact that a new student may have with you personally, or with the studio where you currently teach, is during the course of a telephone conversation. When a student calls you or the studio in search of information about your classes, it is important for him or her to feel welcomed and acknowledged.
On the other hand, if a potential new yoga student tries to contact the studio directly by telephone several times without success, the difficulty he or she encounters will be likely to cause frustration and may also reflect a lack of professionalism on the studio’s staff. This may, in turn, alienate a potential new student to the point where he or she does not follow through and come to take a yoga class with you. Additionally, if a student is given incorrect information over the telephone, no matter how friendly the person is on the other end of the line, this will most likely alienate the student and reflect badly on the studio.
If you are opening up a brand new yoga studio, you may want to schedule a training session with your staff in order to practice good telephone skills when students do call the studio. Using good phone etiquette when students call the studio is important. Simple practices such as introducing yourself and the name of your studio to the caller and using courteous phrases such as “please” and “thank-you” go a long way towards creating a sense of respect and gratitude for the person on the other end of the phone line.
